But it's still a good read and interesting project idea for those interested in the crypto space. It touches mostly on Bitcoin though. I'm wondering if some alt-coins could be profitable. Thoughts? cleverca22 Posts: 9296 Joined: Sat Aug 18, 2012 2:33 pm Re: Mining Bitcoin (and Other Crypto) Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:05 pm i consider all proof of work based coins just a waste of energythe more energy you dump into it, the more you make, until the difficulty re-balances, then EVERYBODY makes LESS for a HIGHER energy cost!there are other coins that are proof of stake, where the amount you can mine is based in how much you currently have, and your not just pointlessly wasting electricity in an effort to out-waste othersid name some coins, but thats more likely to get deleted for advertising crypto-currency Im_Not_Human_At_All Posts: 7 Joined: Wed Feb 17, 2021 1:49 pm Re: Mining Bitcoin (and Other Crypto) Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:12 pm cleverca22 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:05 pmi consider all proof of work based coins just a waste of energythe more energy you dump into it, the more you make, until the difficulty re-balances, then EVERYBODY makes LESS for a HIGHER energy cost!there are other coins that are proof of stake, where the amount you can mine is based in how much you currently have, and your not just pointlessly wasting electricity in an effort to out-waste othersid name some coins, but thats more likely to get deleted for advertising crypto-currencyYour right about the rebalancing. I'm sure there was a time a raspberry pi could have been useful for mining for profits, but those days seem long gone and it's only educational now. That being said, I can't tell from the article - is it using the cpu from the pi? Or just the ASIC? cleverca22 Posts: 9296 Joined: Sat Aug 18, 2012 2:33 pm Re: Mining Bitcoin (and Other Crypto) Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:23 pm Im_Not_Human_At_All wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:12 pmThat being said, I can't tell from the article - is it using the cpu from the pi? However, you do not need to mine Bitcoin only. its just running a usb ASIC miner on a pi Im_Not_Human_At_All Posts: 7 Joined: Wed Feb 17, 2021 1:49 pm Re: Mining Bitcoin (and Other Crypto) Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:25 pm cleverca22 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:23 pmIm_Not_Human_At_All wrote: ↑Sat Feb 20, 2021 8:12 pmThat being said, I can't tell from the article - is it using the cpu from the pi?
