With ranks under master/veteran/elite :/ You can still kill them. The bounty hunting is broken, those ranks don't actually matter. Also, only attack pirates that are also being attacked by Feds or another ship that's powerful, you'll probably not die then. Personally I've taken out three novice pirates that pulled me off supercruise when I was running with goods. But also I've died three times to same type NPC - I do not understand why sometimes I break their shields and I deal nothing, and other times I shred them to pieces (using defaulta sidewinder lasers).Do I understand that correctly - hunt pirate NPCs in RES sites and I get bounty for them in nearest station? Dotn boither mining its not very profitable unless you have a big ass ship. Yep. Res sites are full of npc pirates to cash in on. Don't bother looking at the combat rank, just go for smaller ships if you're in a smaller ship. Basically anything smaller than a Vulture should be a relatively easy mark, just avoid wings until you get a good handle on things. Even a wing of 3 Sidewinders can prove to be problematic. Once you get about 20 mil saved up you can get a Vulture, and a Vulture can handle an Anaconda just fine with the right build/pilot.
